Scientific Writing and Publishing in the Natural Sciences A post-graduate course preparing PhD students for all aspects of the peer review process. The course is made up of lectures, guest speakers, and exercises, including individual & group work, as well as classroom discussions. We discuss all aspects of scientific writing, including the format and content of the scientific paper. We discuss the publishing system, including: how to submit a paper, the variety of journals to submit to, authorship, the peer-review system, editorship and bibliometrics. Lastly, we will discuss the format and content of doctoral thesis. Class enrolment: maximum 25 PhD students. The course is offered during the first week in December. Main Instructor: Dolly Kothawala Offered December 2023 email [email protected] to register before Nov 15th 2023 Aquatic Ecosystems and Ecosystem Services Undergraduate course for 5th year engineering students giving an overview of biological, chemical and physical processes relevant to aquatic ecosystems. Students develop a more advanced understanding of physical, chemical biological processes regulating freshwater ecosystems and their ecosystem services. The course includes lectures, seminars, a field and lab based project, and a literature project. The course is offered in the fall term during September and October.
